Canada starts this summer (2023) the rounds of Express Entry: Selection by categories, to become a permanent resident.
Express Entry is the online system used by the Canadian government to grant permanent residence to skilled workers.
In category-based rounds of invitations, candidates are invited who qualify under a specific category established by the Minister to meet a given economic objective. Candidates are invited to apply for permanent residence based on criteria such as:
Ability to communicate in a specific official language
Work experience in a specific Training, Education, Experience and Responsibilities (TEER) category of the National Occupational Classification of Occupations (NOC)

Category rounds are in addition to the general and program rounds by inviting top-ranked candidates who can help achieve specific economic objectives.
Chosen categories will be announced in advance.
Candidates with a provincial or territorial nomination
Candidates with a provincial or territorial nomination will continue to be invited through general and specific rounds of the Provincial Nominee Program. These candidates have demonstrated that they have the necessary skills, education and work experience to contribute to the economy of the province or territory.

For 2023, these categories are chosen:
French language proficiency
Health occupations
Science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) occupations
Business occupations
Transportation occupations
Agricultural and agri-food occupations
Who is eligible
To be eligible for an invitation through a category round, all requirements listed in the category round instructions must be met.
When a category invitation round is organized:
Candidates from the pool who meet the category requirements will be ranked and.
Top ranked candidates will be invited to apply for permanent residence.
The categories are:
French language proficiency (at least NCLC 7 in reading, writing, listening and speaking).
Health professions
Science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) professions
Trades such as carpenters, plumbers, contractors
Transportation occupations
Agricultural and agri-food occupations
